Spray Towers
At times the simplest approach is the best. Spray towers are used in fouling service where a comparable packed tower would see its performance deteriorate over time. The empty tower makes it impervious to solid build up over time. Most spray towers are designed with counter current flow. The vapor enters at the bottom and leaves at the top, while nozzles spray the scrubbing liquid into the tower. Often employing multiple spray levels to ensure good vapor to liquid contact, these units can achieve removal rates in excess of 99% when properly designed.
